Goldman Sachs AI report 📊
Has AI made you feel like you might lose your job?
Goldman Sachs recently released a report detailing how AI could affect labor markets.
Here’s the rundown:
AI could replace up to 300 million full-time jobs
AI could increase the total annual value of goods and services produced by 7%
AI could automate 46% of tasks in administrative and 44% in legal professions, but only 6% in construction and 4% in maintenance
Why is generative AI so powerful? The report broke it down into two main reasons.
“Generate new content that is indistinguishable from human-created output”
“Break down communication barriers between humans and machines”
Don’t worry, here’s some good news.
“The good news is that worker displacement from automation has historically been offset by creation of new jobs, and the emergence of new occupations following technological innovations accounts for the vast majority of long-run employment growth. The combination of significant labor cost savings, new job creation, and higher productivity for non-displaced workers raises the possibility of a productivity boom that raises economic growth substantially, although the timing of such a boom is hard to predict.”
Do you think AI will take your job? 🤔

What does Bill Gates think of AI? 📩
Bill Gates recently published his thoughts on AI, the business magnate had some interesting perspectives.

The underlying theme of the paper focused on how AI can reduce inequities. In particular, he mentioned AI being used to improve education and help fight climate change.
Some other topics he discussed included:
Health
AI can be used to help healthcare workers make better use of their time by taking care of tasks like filing insurance claims, dealing with paperwork, and drafting notes.
Countries that don’t have access to quality healthcare can benefit from AI, for example, AI-powered ultrasound machines that can be used with minimal training
Medical breakthroughs will increase with AI. Complex biological systems will become easier to track and next-generation tools will become more efficient
Education
AI-driven software will know your interests and your learning style so it can tailor content that keeps you engaged
Students’ understanding will be measured, interest will be monitored, and motivations will be evaluated by AI tools
AI tools for low-income schools will need to be trained on diverse data sets so they are unbiased and reflect the different cultures they’ll be used in
Gates also discussed the risks and problems with AI. In particular, how AI struggles with abstract thought, threats posed by humans with AI, and AI running out of control.
