Runaway Gen-2 🎥

Runaway, an AI company specializing in image and video synthesis, just announced Gen-2. The new platform is “a multi-modal AI system that can generate novel videos with text, images of video clips.”

To understand how powerful Gen-2 is, we need to look at Gen-1.

Gen-1 was released in February, and it allowed users to generate video in any style using their Video-to-video technology. The platform used words and images to create new videos out of existing videos.

What makes Gen-2 so powerful? The platform can generate videos without the use of pictures or existing videos. The new Text-to-video technology can make full videos out of simple text prompts.

Check it out.

Gen-2 will be released soon, you can learn more about the platform here.

Is AI going to take your job? 👩‍💻

OpenAI in collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania recently published research on how GPT models might affect labor markets in the U.S.

The researchers argued:

  • 80% of the U.S. workforce could have at least 10% of their tasks affected by GPTs.

  • 19% of the U.S. workforce could have at least 50% of their tasks affected by GPTs.

  • Exposure to GPTs spans most industries, however, exposure is greater for higher-income jobs.

The occupations with the highest exposure included:

  • Mathematicians

  • Tax preparers

  • Writers

  • Web designers

  • Accountants

  • Journalists

  • Legal Secretaries

The most impacted industries included:

  • Data processing service

  • Information services

  • Publishing industries

  • Insurance carriers

The least impacted industries included:

  • Food manufacturing

  • Wood product manufacturing

  • Support activities for agriculture/forestry

For those of you in college, there’s still time to switch your major.

Anthropic’s Claude ✅

Anthropic, an AI research company co-founded by ex-employees of OpenAI, recently released Claude, an AI assistant “based on Anthropic’s research into training helpful, honest, and harmless AI systems.”

What makes Claude different from other AI chatbots? Claude uses a model called Constitutional AI. This type of AI uses a model (instead of human feedback) of underlying principles, aka its constitution, to generate outputs. Other AI chatbots like ChatGPT use a process called Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) to generate outputs.

Anthropic has worked with key partners such as Notion, Quora, and DuckDuckGo in a closed alpha to test out Claude.

The company has received substantial investment from investors, including Google which invested $300m in the company last month. 👀

Two versions of Claude were released.

  • Claude: a state-of-the-art high-performance model

  • Claude Instant: lighter, less expensive, and much faster

Anthropic is currently accepting requests for open access here.

That’s it for today, we’ll see you back here tomorrow!
