What is MetNet-2? 🌧️

Google’s newest deep learning model, MetNet-2, might be able to help.

MetNet-2 is a ‘probabilistic weather model based on deep neural networks.’

Typical weather forecasts use physics-based techniques, these techniques aren’t great because:

1. High computational requirements

2. Sensitive to approximations of physical laws

Deep learning uses a different approach.

These models predict weather patterns directly from observed data, which is much faster than physics-based techniques.

The new model will be able to predict rainfall up to 12 hours in advance.
