Meet Sybil 🫁

AI continues to innovate, especially in medicine.

Sybil is an AI tool that can detect early signs of lung cancer years before doctors could find it on a CT scan. Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Mass General Cancer Center in Boston have been developing the tool over the past years.

The CDC recommends that adults at risk for lung cancer get a low-dose CT scan annually, however, even with regular screenings some signs can go unnoticed, even by the most skilled radiologists.

The CT scans above were taken two years apart. On the left is what Sybil noticed two years ago, and on the right is what radiologists noticed two years later.

The AI that we developed is looking at the scan in a completely different way than a human radiologist looks at it,” said Dr. Lecia Sequist, program director of the Cancer Early Detection and Diagnostics Clinic at Massachusets General Hospital.

In one study, Sybil was shown to predict whether a person will develop lung cancer in the next year 86% to 94% of the time. Sybil is not yet approved for use outside of clinical trials, if approved, it could drastically change cancer screenings for millions.

You ever just buy 10,000 GPUs?

According to a Business Insider report, Elon Musk recently purchased 10,000 graphics processing units for Twitter, which he acquired almost six months ago. For reference, the main AI/ML GPU is NVIDIA’s A100, which cost $15,000+ each.

$15,000 × 10,000 = $150,000,000 🤯

The company has recruited former DeepMind engineers, including Igor Babushkin and Manuel Kroiss. According to Insider, Musk is actively looking to recruit AI talent. This comes after he called for a six-month pause on all AI development. 🤔

What do you think of the situation?

Is AutoGPT worth the hype? 🗣️

You’ve probably heard of AutoGPT over the past couple days. It’s the newest kid on the block, and we’re here to discuss it.

What is AutoGPT?

AutoGPT is an open-source experiment to make GPT-4 completely autonomous. The description of the GitHub page tool reads, “Auto-GPT is an experimental open-source application showcasing the capabilities of the GPT-4 language model. This program, driven by GPT-4 chains together LLM ‘thoughts’, to autonomously achieve whatever goal you set. As one of the first examples of GPT-4 running fully autonomously, Auto-GPT pushes the boundaries of what is possible with AI.”

Okay cool, but what can AutoGPT actually do?

Different models of AutoGPT are designed for different tasks. For example, one model’s goal is to “increase the net worth of business through data-driven decisions.” This is achieved through analyzing market data, tracking profitable business opportunities, and taking action such as buying stocks or developing new products. Other models are designed for social media activity, financial data, and market trends.

We think the hype is real, AutoGPT has the potential to change the way machines work for us.
