LLaMA Leak 🦙

Meta recently announced LLaMa, an AI language model designed for use in research and government.

LLaMa was not released as a public chatbot, instead, individuals can request access to the open-source package. Within a week of Meta accessing requests to access LLaMa, the AI model was leaked on 4chan.

How has the AI community reacted to the leak? Well, it’s complicated.

Some individuals argue that open access is necessary to develop complex AI models like LLaMa. Additionally, other complex AI models have already been released to the public without harm.

Others think open-sourcing models like these will have terrible consequences and that personalized spam and threats will be on the rise using new AI models.

What do you think?

Thankfully, LLaMa won’t do much for the average internet user due to the large amount of work required to make the AI model functional. Also, the model isn’t built for calibrated conversations like ChatGPT and Bing.

Secret AI Startup? 🤫

Most individuals build in public.

Imran Chaudhri and Bethany Bongiorno, former design and engineering team members at Apple chose to build in the shadows. Their AI startup Humane is aiming to create “an integrated device and cloud services platform”

They recently raised $100m in Series C round funding. In addition, they secured some big collaborations. 👀

• “Humane has partnered with Microsoft to bring its services platform to market. This will see Humane leverage the best cloud infrastructure in AI.”

• “A collaboration with OpenAI will integrate its technology into the Humane device and deliver OpenAI and Humane AI experiences at scale to consumers.”

• “Humane’s future global expansion plans include a collaboration with SK Networks (which covers the ICT device distribution business in Korea and has an extensive global network) to build on the shared ethos of creating meaningful change in consumer technologies.”

Slack Integrates ChatGPT 📈

Salesforce and OpenAI recently introduced the ChatGPT app for Slack. The app was built on the Slack platform by OpenAI. The AI tech is designed to “deliver instant conversation summaries, research tools, and writing assistance directly in Slack to help millions of companies work more productively.”

Customers using the ChatGPT app for Slack will be able to:

• “Get up to speed faster on channels or threads: AI-powered conversation summaries help users quickly catch up on what’s happening.”

• “Instantly find answers on any project or topic: with AI-powered research tools, users can learn and build expertise faster right from Slack — whether they’re researching best practices, prospecting a new account, and more.”

• “Draft messages in seconds to communicate with customers and teams: with AI-powered writing assistance, users can spend less time crafting replies, status updates, and meeting notes — and more time putting the plan in action.”

We think this is a win for Salesforce and OpenAI.
