First Look at Tesla Optimus 🦾

Tesla Optimus, aka Tesla Bot, is a ‘general-purpose robotic humanoid’ being developed by Tesla Inc. It was first announced in August 2021 during Tesla’s Artificial Intelligence Day.

Kind of scary tbh

Yesterday, we saw Tesla Optimus in action during Tesla’s Investor Day. During the demo, the robot walked around and interacted with items. Tesla Optimus even began assembling another Tesla Optimus.

You’ve gotta check it out.

🤯

Musk stated, “It’s obviously not doing parkour but it is walking around and we have multiple copies of Optimus.

Tesla Optimus is expected to sell for less than $20,000 USD.

I think we might exceed a one-to-one ratio of humanoid robots to humans. It’s probably the least understood or appreciated part of what we’re doing at Tesla but will probably be worth significantly more than the car side of things long-term.” Musk said.

The stock price of Tesla (TSLA) fell due to limited details about new products.

Check out the full Investor Day event here.

What is Figure 01? 🦿

Figure, a robotics startup launched in 2022, has just emerged from the shadows with a public unveiling of its first humanoid robot, Figure 01.

Still kind of scary tbh

Figure 01 is designed for a variety of different manual labor tasks in industries like:

  • Warehousing

  • Fulfillment

  • Logistics

  • Manufacturing

  • Retail

Here are some technical specifications for the robot:

Figure was founded by Archer Aviation co-founder Brett Adcock, who has already founded the company to $100 million. The team at Figure is also incredibly capable with previous experience at Tesla, Boston Dynamics, Apple SPG, GoogleX, and more.

Check out this Twitter thread by Brett to learn more about the company and Figure 01.

Agility Robotics 🏎️

You’re probably tired of robotic humanoids at this point.

We promise this is the last one.

Agility Robotics is a robotics company based out of Oregon. The company focuses on ‘human-centric robots that walk into existing warehouses and logistics facilities without needing costly retrofitting.’

The company’s flagship robot is called Digit.

Less scary.

Here are some technical specifications for Digit:

Right now the company’s robots are working on moving totes & packages. Unloading trailers and last-mile delivery is expected in the future.

The company’s philosophy about its robots states: “Our robots aren’t designed with the goal of mimicking people. We set out to create machines that can work in our spaces alongside us. Doing the job right requires many of the same physical characteristics. It all comes back to our mission, building multi-purpose robots that are made for work.

We’re excited to witness the future of Agility Robotics, and other companies producing humanoid robots.

Do you think humanoid robots are good for the future of humanity?

That’s it for today! We’ll see you back here tomorrow!
