Elon starts his own AI company…again? 📊

Buckle in and grab some popcorn … the AI race keeps getting better.

Elon Musk, business magnate and serial entrepreneur is entering re-entering the AI chatbot race.

Let’s go back in time.

In 2015 Elon co-founded OpenAI (creators of ChatGPT) as a nonprofit to rival big tech companies like Google and Microsoft. The team at OpenAI and Elon disagreed on ideological differences, leading to him leaving the firm in 2018.

On Twitter, Musk has criticized ChatGPT for being ‘woke’ and for OpenAI’s transition from being a nonprofit to becoming a “maximum-profit company

So what’s Elon up to today?

Other than building cars, rockets, tunnels, and Twitter the rumor is he’s assembling a team of ML and AI experts to develop an alternative to ChatGPT.

In particular, Musk recruited Igor Babuschkin, a former Alphabet (Google) DeepMind AI researcher. 👀

We’re excited to see where this goes.

You can check out more about the situation here.

A closer look at OpenAI’s Foundry tier 🧱

Yesterday, we talked about Snap. Inc using OpenAI’s Foundry enterprise tier.

Check it out here.

Today, we’re going to dive deeper into what Foundry is.

We’re going to be quoting this product briefing quite a bit.

So, what is Foundry?

It’s “a platform for running OpenAI models on dedicated capacity.”

Who is Foundry designed for?

It’s “designed for cutting-edge customers running larger workloads, allowing interference at scale with full control over the model configuration and performance profile".”

How much will Foundry cost?

GPT-3.5 Turbo will be $78k/3-month and $250k/yr

DV for 8K context will be $234k/3-month and $792k/yr

DV for 32K context will be $468k/3-month and $1.584m/yr

It’s estimated that the 32k-token context will be enough for a 2-hour conversation or 50 pages of text. 🤯

We’re excited to see what’s going to be built using Foundry.

What is PimEyes? 👀

Imagine being able to find every picture of yourself online in an instant.

Well, things just got real.

PimEyes is a ‘face search engine reverse image search’ that can do just that.

PimEyes combines AI facial recognition with reverse image search to quickly and accurately produce search results.

Check out this example by Rowan Cheung on Twitter:

Impressive, yet kind of scary.

Thankfully, PimEyes has an Opt-Out Request Form on their website if you don’t want your face on the site.

You can try out PimEyes for yourself here.

That’s it for today! We’ll see you back here tomorrow!
