Can AI read minds? 🧠

Recently, a team from Osaka University’s Graduate School of Frontier Biosciences released a paper titled ‘High-resolution image reconstruction with latent diffusion models from human brain activity’.

Visual images were reconstructed from MRI scan data using stable diffusion.

The results will blow you away.

How does it work? First, you’re shown a picture. fMRI is then used to produce a blurry image. A text description of the image is also recovered from fMRI data. The text description and blurry image were then decoded to produce the final images.

Do we think AI can fully read minds yet? Not quite, although the results were impressive.

Do we think AI will be able to fully read minds in the near future? Yeah

Ford’s AI subsidiary 🚗

Ford Motor Company is going all in on AI.

They recently unveiled Latitude AI, a Ford subsidiary ‘developing new automated driving technology with an initial focus on a hands-free, eyes-off driver assist system for next-generation Ford vehicles.’

What’s the rundown?

  • Latitude AI consists of a 550-person team from former AI company Argo AI.

  • Argo AI was previously backed by Ford and VW, however, the company shut down in October 2022.

  • The Latitude AI team has applied their experience in automated driving, software development, and infrastructure to work on advanced driver assist systems (ADAS) at Ford.

  • Latitude AI will be headquartered in Pittsburgh, additional sites include Dearborn, MI and Palo Alto, CA.

Although we think Tesla’s FSD is years ahead of the game, we’re excited to see what Latitude AI develops.
