Amazon’s AI-powered experience 📲

Amazon is going all in on AI, this time they’ll be joining the chatbot frenzy.

Amazon

According to recent job postings, the tech giant is looking to hire machine learning-focused engineers that will be “reimagining Amazon Search.” This comes after Google and Microsoft announced their own AI-powered search engines. Specifically, Google’s AI-powered Search Generative Experience was recently shown creating buying guides from a single search. 👀

Amazon doesn’t want to lose out on the shopping market, so its push toward AI makes sense. The recent job listing reads, “We are reimagining Amazon Search with an interactive conversational experience that helps you find answers to product questions, perform product comparisons, receive personalized product suggestions, and so much more.”

We’re not too sure when the new AI-powered experience will drop, however, we expect it to be very soon. The Verge reached out to Amazon for comment, Keri Bertolino, Amazon spokesperson said: “We are significantly investing in generative AI across all of our businesses.”

Do you think the new Amazon experience will be worth the hype?

Is OpenAI releasing on an open-source model? 🔓

The open-source AI market is growing rapidly.

According to a recent report by The Information, OpenAI is preparing to release a new open-source language model to the public. This is a big step forward for the AI giant as they haven’t open-sourced a language model since 2019.

It’s unlikely for OpenAI to release a model that competes with GPT-4, their flagship model that powers ChatGPT. It's possible that OpenAI's decision to pursue advanced software models could be attributed to Meta's open-source releases. These releases gave researchers access to innovative models, which they then developed into software capable of competing with OpenAI and Google.

The rise of open-source alternatives to ChatGPT is spreading. Popular open-source alternatives include Databricks and Stability AI, as well as technology from Laion, a German nonprofit. Some companies, such as Meta, do not offer access to their AI technology. On the other hand, OpenAI's valuation heavily relies on the commercial viability of its highly advanced models.

Google 🤝 Adobe

Bard will be getting updated generative AI features thanks to Adobe.

Adobe Blog

On Friday, Adobe announced Firefly and Adobe Express will be integrated into Google’s Bard chatbot. Firefly is Adobe’s newest AI art generation tool, and Adobe Express is their free graphic design tool. Adobe said Firefly will be the “premier generative AI partner” for Bard.

This is a significant development for Google, particularly because Microsoft's Bing Chat boasts a robust generative AI tool powered by OpenAI's DALL-E 2. Soon, Bard users will be able to generate images using Firefly, and then modify them using Adobe Express.

“The partnership between Google and Adobe brings the best model designed to be commercially safe closer to the best search engine and enables Bard customers to tap into the power of Firefly — creating, styling and taking their content to the next level by using Adobe Express,” Alexandru Costin, VP of generative AI at Adobe, told TechCrunch in an email interview.

Do you think Bard will be able to compete with Bing Chat’s generative AI power?

That’s it for today, we’ll see you back here tomorrow!
